Assessing rice irrigation requirements: A case study of Ahero Irrigation Scheme.
Water is a limited resource with many competing uses, and so the right amount should be applied at the right place. To increase rice productivity also implies abandoning the traditional irrigation methods where irrigation water was measured 'by eye'. This study assessed the precise requirements of rice in the growing season of 2023.Using remote sensing data and cutting edge trends, the study identified the amount of water needed by the rice in each growth stage and the amount of deviation between the amount of water applied and the optimal amount needed. Using remote sensing indices and FAO methodologies
